Digital Committee of Correspondence Begins June 1st
Today, the Worcester Revolution of 1774 announced that their launch of their ‘Digital Committee of Correspondence’ begins June 1st. Since their mention of it in the fall, they created a way to spread the moments of this dramatic time through the lens of the computer and mobile phone. In fact, their focus on a mobile-only experience is a unique path chosen for many reasons – the most important of which is that the American Revolution, at its core, was about reacting to all the was happening around you. What is Twitter?
Twitter is a message board made up of 140-character messages called Tweets. It’s an easy way to hear the latest news on topic important to you.
How is it useful?
You will receive messages from those you choose to follow on your home page. It’s like being delivered a newspaper whose headlines you find interesting. You discover news as it is happening and get the scoop when it happens.
How do I start?
Some people find it useful to contribute their own Tweets, yet the real magic of Twitter lies in seeing real-time information that matters to you. Here’s how to start:
- Visit Twitter.com and sign up for a free account. Just enter your name, email address, and desired password in the provided space. Log in.
- Enter ‘revolution1774’ in the search box. Then, click on the ‘1774’ link. When you see our page, press the ‘Follow’ button. You may want to add feeds from your favorite organizations, friends, or public personalities.
- Add a short one-sentence blurb about yourself, whether you be a historian, reenactor, CEO of MyCompany, or a work-at-home mom. Consider including a photo to go with your Tweets. Without a photo, an image of a little egg in a yellow box appears in your tweets instead.
- Get ready to send texts of up to 140 characters. The art of tweeting is the skill to be concise. You may want to shorten words like, “sez” for “says,” “2” for “two” “w/” for “with,” “+” for “and.”
You will be able to access the ‘Digital Committee’ on a variety of different devices, any of which may be convenient to you at a given moment – including your desktop computer or tablet. Remember to react and Tweet back to the steam in the real world in real time. Help us to focus on the importance of the Worcester Revolution and make this piece of American history an experience that captivates all that hear of it.
