Qualifications and Procedures
for SAR Membership
Any man, over eighteen, of good repute in his community, who is the lineal descendant of an ancestor who rendered service in support of our Revolutionary War, is eligible to join SAR
By lineal descent it is meant a direct bloodline through parents, grandparents, great grandparents, etc., male or female, but not through uncles, aunts, cousins, or any adoptive parent.
By service it is meant military, political, naval, civil, or material service to the war effort between 1775 and 1783, soldier, sailor, marine, militia, minuteman; colonial civil servant or office holder; signer of a petition or-oath of loyalty or allegiance; provider of goods (food, money, horses, etc.) or services (lodging, nursing, etc.) to the armed forces. There are other miscellaneous acceptable service categories available on request (e.g., signers of Declaration of Independence and members of the Boston Tea Party).
Applications for membership must be filled out in duplicate and documents to prove the blood line must be provided, together with a check for $135.00 which covers all national and state fees and first year dues.
